marketing and acquisition of knowledge intensive businesses in Amsterdam

Verslag

Campuses are increasingly positioning themselves as attractive locations for businesses. This research studies how this plays out in Amsterdam. We conclude that there is currently much fragmentation in efforts to position the campus landscape as business location, and provide some policy recommendations.

This research report delivers input for the municipality of Amsterdam and partner campuses in their attempt to develop strategies to attract knowledge intensive businesses to the Amsterdam region and facilitate their integration. The motivation for this research is twofold.

1. Firstly, is the increasing attention that campuses, many of them members of Campus Amsterdam, are devoting to profiling themselves as attractive locations for businesses and the desire of campus managers to professionalise these activities.

2. Secondly, the re-evaluation of the municipal and regional strategies for the acquisition of foreign direct investment with the aim of focusing on attracting knowledge intensive businesses and specifically those who clearly contribute to addressing pressing societal challenges societal challenges
